There is lots of conflicting advise about makeup on the internet. I have included a few basic beauty tips below which I follow myself. They are here as a basic guidline only. I will be adding more tips from professionals as I find them.
9 Basic Steps When applying Makeup.
- Cleanse. Always start with a nice clean face. This allows make up to spread evenly on the face and keeps your pores from clogging up.
- Moisturize. Keeps your skin hydrated. One with a built in UPF is preferred as it stops sun damage from occuring.
- Apply foundation. Always use a clean, dry sponge or applicator. In different seasons you may need to change your shade slightly to suit your skin ie a darker shade in summer due to being more tanned.
- Powder application. Used to stop shine and give a more natural look to your face. Apply translucent powder after foundation evenly on the face. Excess powder should be dusted off with a soft brush or cosmetics puff.
- Blusher. (if using a cream or stick this should be applied before powder) Apply lightly on the apple of your cheek and blend up along your cheekbone.
- Eyeshadow. Can be applied many different ways depending on the look you are trying to achieve. For basic everyday eyewear, first lightly blend the base (medium) color all over the lid and then smudge the darker color from the lash line up to the crease. Once the two colors are thoroughly blended, sweep highlighter onto the browbone and blend.
- Eyeliner. Apply as close to the lashline as possible. Hold the eyelid taut and draw a steady line from the inner eye out wards. Apply to top and bottom lids for a dramatic look.
- Mascara. Highlights and dramatizes eyes. Apply a light coat first, from the roots to the tips of the lashes. Allow to dry then apply a second coat (or a third if you are going for a really dramatic look!).
- Lipstick. Defines the mouth and adds colour to the face. Choose colour according to skin shade and eye makeup. For a more natural look try a tinted lip gloss.
